Terminal Tackle , General description; Swivels and combination of Snaps that aid in changing lures/leaders, preventing twist in the line during trolling and or add a connection between fishing lines.

History; Likely goes as far back to the day fishermen started developing twist in the line from retrieving natural and artificial offerings presented to fish. Modern applications are many as are materials,styles and sizes. Here are a few examples of those uses.

Corkscrew and Mcmahon Snaps Swivels used here to prevent twist in the line while trolling and also making for quick lure change when need.

Other uses can be to make a stopper when fishing with weighted rigs. Here depicted is a Rosco Barrel Swivel used with a sliding egg sinker.

Important note on Swivels is; be sure to read up on or ask other anglers when using certain lures with swivels. Sometimes the use of a swivel may severely change the action of the lure, making it not as effective. As with Iron, one should never use such a connection when fishing that style of lure.
